March 28-30

Tuesday:
Tuesday was our last night of Spanish cuisine :-( For our "exam" we broke into 3 groups and had to make tortilla de espanol and esalada valenciana w/ no instruction. The winning group won gift cards to a really nice restaurant in Alicante. I was in a group with the Taylors, Steph and Bianca. Our tortilla and salad LOOKED perfect. Our chef started the taste test and after cutting into ours said "ohhhh, un poquito raro" (a little undercooked) :-( He tasted it and said it was fine to eat but we obviously didn't win the contest. However, Sylvain (sighhh...) informed us that he liked our tortilla the best and thats how he eats it at home. Love that guy.

Wednesday:
I stayed home from class wednesday to write a paper for European Union class. You know you've been out of touch with reality too long when ONE 5-page paper all semester seems like a crippling task. (I feel the same way about my ONE test next week) It was absolute torture trying to make myself write about post disaster assistance from the US and EU. I woke up early and motivated myself with the beach. I finally finished at 12 and spent the rest of the day sleeping and recovering on the beach - seriously .. it took that much out of me.

Thursday: Thursday after class I did a water sports activity. For 20 euro it included 4 hours oh kayaking, paddle boarding and windsurfing. The weather was perfect (75 and zero clouds) and it was so much fun! I went with the Taylors and Steph and Bianca. The instructors provided wetsuits that we didnt reall ned until the sun started to go down. First we went kayaking ... talk about a work out! I have only kayaked once before when i was really little so i had no idea how hard it would be. It was great though, I wish I could do it every day! We went about 20 minutes away from the starting point and jumped in for a swim. I seriously cannot get over the water here - chrystal clear all the way to the bottom and the prettiest blue-green color... Ocean City is gonna be a wake-up call! After swimming for a while we hopped back into the kayak (ok .. it took a couple of tries after completely tipping it over) and went back to shore. The next activity was paddleboarding and it was so hard! You basically balance on top of a surfboard and paddle yourself with an oar. I wanted to get it so bad but I was never actually able to balance standing up. The instructor made it look so easy but none of us really got it. Windsurfing was next and much easier! It wasnt really windy so we didnt move a whole lot but we learned how to turn and stuff and it was still alot of fun. After a near death experience (the pole from the sail almost landed right on my face!) I was exhausted. Thats when the instructors told us we were going to have a race. None of us really wanted to do it but we didnt want to be rude so we went along with it. Taylor Bianca and I raced another group in the kayak.. my arms have never burned so bad!

After we were done I rushed home to shower, make dinner, and clean my apartment before I had to meet for a group project at 8:30. After I showered and started dinner I checked my email and found 6 emails from my mom. I was really confused at first, I had told them I would been them at 3:30 when they arrived on Firday but apparently I had the wrong day and they got in that morning... OOPS! It had been writting in my planner, highlighted and underlined for months that they were coming on Friday but I guess that was wrong! I felt bad because they had been waiting for me for 3 hours. But it was definitely a nice surprise to see them a day early! I met up with them right away and we caught the airport bus to go pick up our rental car, only to get to the airport and find that the company they rented from didn't exist! They had a rough start to their trip .. not only did their only daughter not know when they were coming, but their rental car didnt exist and their was broken by the airline employees and they had to lug it from the airport to the trainstation in madrid .. not easy. After we got everything straightened out we went to dinner at Rincon Gallego, a nice restaurant near the hotel.
